Breaking Down Acura MDX Type S, Get Pre-Approved at Criswell Acura!

The 2022 Acura MDX is the leading SUV to bear the sporty Type S label, which was revived the previous year with the release of the latest TLX Type S sedan. Do not get confused with MDX and MDX type S as both are different SUV variants with significant differences. We will be reviewing only the MDX type S variant here.

The MDX Type S isn't simply an aesthetic update like the brand's A-Spec classification; it comes with a complete makeover of functionality, with a more powerful engine, a novel adaptive suspension, and more. Overall, the Type S makeover elevates which was thus far a capable 3-row SUV to something enthralling.

What Comes New
  • Completely remodeled as SUV for the year 2022.
  • New 12.3-inch navigation screen and enhanced interior
  • A new Type S sportier model with 3.0-liter turbo V6.
  • The prior Sport Hybrid model is no longer available.
  • This launch is the fourth MDX generation.

Powered by Turbocharged V6 with 355 horsepower

The basic MDX's 3.5-liter V6 is restored by the identical 3.0-liter turbo V6 as the TLX Type S in the engine compartment. Having 355 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of contortion, the hotter MDX outperforms the ordinary model by 65 hp plus 87 pound-feet.

On the streets, it equates to a 0-to-60-mph scamper which is a whole second faster, as well as plenty of enthusiasm for a solid time once you're rolling. The Type S' 10-speed gearbox has been ramped up with sturdier internals and updated programming, resulting in 40 percent quicker deceleration and upshifts than the usual MDX's automatic transmission.

Acura's Super Handling All-Wheel Drive is also conventional, and it can transfer almost 70 percent of the motor's power to the front shaft, allowing it to be vectored sideways.

Comes with the Latest air suspension

The MDX Type S drive is softer up to 40 percent and 52 percent more supple over thuds than the usual SUV in its most comfort-oriented setting.

The Type S also has a recalibrated electric steering system with 23 percent less help, giving it a heavier sense and permitting more input to reach your hands. Sport+ and Sport drastically alter the nature of the MDX Type S in comparison to Normal and Relaxed by adjusting throttle response, muffled tone, transmission shift time, and SH-AWD tune.

Changes to the Type S design

The large brakes & 21-inch tires are the major apparent curbside clues that this isn't your typical MDX, but Type S logos can be seen from each angle. The Advanced Package includes a nine-way hydromassage function, as a welcome addition.

The Type S is the only car with Tiger Eye Pearl premium (yellow) paint.

The Type S includes the same 12.3-inch screen as MDX, which isn't delicate and is controlled via Acura's True Touch Interface pad. Only the Type S has the Studio 3D Signature system with 25 speakers with more than 1,000 watts which sounds wonderful from the rear chairs, generating a broad and convincing soundscape from hi-fi and multimedia audio inputs.

The Type S, like the basic MDX, is equipped with nearly all of Acura's array of driver’s helping hands & support technology. Forward-collision alert with collision mitigation deceleration and pedestrian recognition, carriageway steering help, road deviation prevention, traction control with low-speed chasing, and traffic tie-up management are among the features available.

The Advance Package replaces the rear camera with a combined system and includes a 10.5-inch head-up display. You'll need to utilize the Type S's brilliant red, four-piston Brembo front brakes featuring 14.3-inch rotors sparingly while swabbing off speed before a corner.

Competition Against the Acura MDX Type S

The Audi Q7, like some other German luxury SUVs, has a high starting price, roughly $8,000 which is more than the MDX. And, on our scale, the Q7 does not appear to be spectacular enough to justify the additional cost.

The Mercedes-Benz GLE is more expensive than the MDX and does not come standard with three rows of seats, so you'll have to look for one.

Aggressive Pricing

The 2022 Acura MDX Type S begins at $67,745 with a $1,025 destination fee, $11,800 more than a similarly equipped MDX with the Technology package. The MDX Type S was priced remarkably competitively by Acura.

This MDX may have possibly been a diluted version of the resurrected Type S brand. This superior beauty deserves its additional type S badge with a pleasant performance increase when in need & better relaxation when you don't.

It'd be a folly to think of the Type S as just another trim pack because the differences are significant.

It comes with a new turbocharged 3.0-liter engine, adjustable air suspension, bigger brakes, Sport+ driving modes, and two extra radiators. To help with mass balance, the steering, gearbox, and brake pedals have all been recalibrated, and the battery has also been repositioned.

These modifications reflect the vehicle's intense effect on performance enhancement.

Pros
  • Spacious luggage space and a cozy cabin
  • Strike a balance between athletic handling and a comfortable ride.
  • For the money, there are a lot of amenities and driving aids.

  • The use of a true touchpad interface necessitates a steep curve.
